"Our present understanding and experience of Dharma is quite superficial. There is a big gap between our mind and Dharma and we cannot apply Dharma in our daily lives. Our approach remains like someone watching television, and our mind remains as uncontrolled as before. Why is this? It is because we are not studying systematically, according to a specially designed programme. If we just pick at Dharma randomly we shall never gain deep and stable experience. For this reason the spiritual programme's offered in New Kadampa Tradition Centre's are very important" - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
From Sunday 7th March 2010, Maitreya Buddhist Centre will be offering a chance to study the book "Universal Compassion" by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. If you are at all interested in this class or the Wednesday and Friday class, please contact the Education Coordinator Jon Basher at Maitreya Centre on (01424) 733 761 or by email at epc@meditateinbexhill.co.uk
From Wednesday February 3rd 2010, we will continue to study
"Understanding the Mind" by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso with our Resident Teacher Kelsang Lam-ma,
here at Maitreya Buddhist Centre. This class is split over Wednesday and Friday of each week,
it starts at 10.30am and finishes at 12.30pm on bith days.
The cost is £30 for a centre card per month, which includes all the Foundation and
General Programme Classes and half price on Day Courses.
Many Buddhist practitioners have a sincere wish to deepen their knowledge and experience of Dharma and to gain authentic spiritual realisations through a structured programme of Dharma studies. The Foundation Programme is designed to fulfil this wish. It provides a systematic presentation of the basic subjects of Mahayana Buddhism and forms a perfect basis for a strong daily practice and successful meditation retreats. Through studying on the Foundation Programme we learn how to eliminate our negative states of mind and how to cultivate positive states of mind. Our negative minds such as anger and selfishness will not go away by themselves; we need a tried and tested method to reduce and eventually to eliminate all negativity from our minds.
